PREVIEW OF ‘THE MUSICIANS OF BREMEN’, A MUSICAL EXTRAVAGANZA ON THE HIGH SEAS

Star Cruises’ friends were invited to watch the making and synopsis of ‘The Musicians of Bremen’ onboard Asia's popular cruise ship SuperStar Virgo, recreating the most loved of fairy tales with a modern twist, from the subtle blending of the lighting with the segue of the music to the spectacular costume design set against the lavish backdrops. It is definitely an upcoming musical extravaganza with an international appeal.

The show is a modern day musical comedy based on the famous fairy tale story, by the Grimm Brothers about 4 animals, the donkey, the hound, the cat and the cock who travel to the town of Bremen to become the town musicians.

Artistic Director, Sviatlana Burkin, with Belarussian Choreographers, Julia Roleva and Dzianis Antonenko made the story come to life through their rhythmic interpretation of the song. But what really steals the show are the costumes, designed by Liudmila Karpenka, from Belarus, her initial sketches were brought to life with the aid of her assistants, Iryna Yafremenka and Yuliya Chyhilinskaya.

While following a story line and ensuring a coalescence of dancers, ‘animals’, royalty and acrobats seamlessly coming together to tell a tale was important for the success of the show, the main concern was the audience. It was paramount that they understand what is going on as in an age of such advanced technology and effects, it is important not to get caught up in this side of the field and lose sight of the story.

In ‘The Musicians of Bremen’ this has been achieved by maintaining the basic story line of love where boy meets girl, they face many trials and tribulations and all with the help of his friends, true love is found. Love wins every time and this is also another key factor to the success of ‘The Musicians of Bremen’ – people can leave behind there own stresses and worries and get caught up in the romance of the story, perhaps rekindling the spark for many of the audience… The costumes also add depth to the story, with the use of vibrant colours and the intricate weave of fabric and layers giving a 3 dimensional effect to the costumes, playing cheekily with the lights to shimmer and sparkle.

Produced entirely by the Star Cruises entertainment team, the million dollar production brings together a multi-award winning international cast of 29 talented artistes comprising the beautiful and exotic dancers from Brazil and Belarus and the internationally acclaimed acrobats from Quang Xi, China.

Guests can enjoy the show at the magnificent 934 seat Lido show lounge, equipped with advanced light, sound and stage features including the newly installed RM 1 million ‘state-of the art’ LED screen which provides a spectacular 4 D-effect to the show and to the audience.

‘The Musicians of Bremen’ is another in a series of specially produced production shows following Sorpresa and the Kingdom of Kung Fu which were extremely popular with our guests which are aimed at providing guests with a truly world class cruise experience", said Ms. Jean Teo, Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Star Cruises.

“There was an absolute commitment from everyone involved in creating ‘The Musicians of Bremen’ and the time it took to put everything together. The stage, the scenery, the props, the choreography, everything was put together in just 3 weeks. This demonstrated a collective drive of creative energy unsurpassed in the entertainment world”, said Mr. Looi Ban Cheng, Star Cruises, Vice President for Entertainment.

Cruisers can enjoy the new show on SuperStar Virgo's regular destination, weekend and special cruises out of Singapore.
